WHAT IS A BITE PLATE?

The bite plate is used only in combination with the muscle relaxant and is an integral part of the MFS anti-bruxism device. The device works as an anterior bite plate, an ap-pliance regularly used in orthodoncy, to raise the bite and to reduce deep overbite malocclusion of anterior teeth by extrusion of posterior teeth and posterior rotation of the jaw.

INDICATIONS

The bite plate is used only in combination with the muscle relaxant and is indicated in the palliative treatment of brux-ism and in patients with deep anterior overbite.

Only a licensed dentist may perform a complete evalu-ation of each case history and prescribe the use of this device, whether it is used alone or in combination with other devices.

WHEN AND HOW TO USE A BITE PLATE?

W połączeniu z relaksatorem mięśni, płytka nagryzowa  stanowi część aparatu odciążającego, zaleca się stosowanie jej wyłącznie w nocy. Technika poprawnego umieszczenia przewiduje, aby relaksator mięśni znajdował się między zębami, policzkami i wargami, kiedy płytka nagryzowa jest umieszczana miedzy górnymi i dolnymi siekaczami.

SIZES

The bite plate comes in six sizes, numbered from one to six. The smaller sizes are used in the pediatric population, while the larger sizes have been designed for use in adult patients. Bite plate size matches the size of the muscle relaxant.

The bite plate works passively and is inserted between the upper and lower incisors.

To determine which size to use it is best to take the measurement from the mold of the patient’s inferior dental arch.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Should not be used in dolichocephalic patients (long nar-row head) or in patients under five years of age.

WARNINGS

Bite plates should not be placed in direct contact with any heat source, otherwise the devices could be deformed and lose their physical characteristics.

OBSERVATIONS

The bite plate is used in combination with the muscle relaxant as a palliative treatment of bruxism. However, you should always consult a licensed dentist for a complete evaluation and diagnosis of the problem.
